Nintendo will release 5 free mobile games by 2017

Nintendo is going to invade the smart devices game industry as they partner with DeNA Co. to create their first mobile games for smart devices. 5 mobile games will be expected to be released by March 2017 with the first batch of games to be released later this year. All games will be free.

It’s not clear what type of games are DeNA and Nintendo are going to release, but Nintendo did clarify that they will not port games from their Nintendo DS game console to mobile devices. It will be an entirely new game designed for mobile devices so we won’t be expecting port from popular Nintendo games such as Pokemon, Zelda, and Mario.

What caught the attention of gamers is that the upcoming batch of games will be free. And an experienced mobile gamer would know that a free game would have some twist to monetize the game such as in-app purchases, microtransactions or ads. We wouldn't know how would Nintendo and DeNA CO. monetize their games until they release their first batch of games later this year.

Nintendo also said that the company and DeNA will aim to create cross-platform content. That is you can play the games on a smartphone, tablet, PC, and existing Nintendo game console.

Despite the move towards the smart devices game industry, Nintendo will still continue to produce its gaming consoles. A Nintendo gaming console codenamed NX is currently in development.
